On this page: reviews of vegan ice cream products, and where you can buy them.
Because taste is so subjective, you may like to take a look at the “What May Affect My Reviews” page before reading the reviews.
Our favourites from everything on this page are Ben & Jerry’s Peanut & Butter Cookies ice cream, their Cookies On Cookie Dough ice cream, and also their Chocolate Brownie ice cream. Almond Dream Salted Caramel is another top choice. Tesco Toffee and Vanilla Cones are up there too, but sadly I haven’t seen them in Tesco for a long time. Steve also considered their strawberry and vanilla cones a favourite.
Here are all the vegan ice cream products we have tried so far (more will be added as we try them)…
VEGAN ICE CREAM
Swedish Glace Vanilla ice cream (Tesco)
Steve and I both liked this vegan ice cream, especially with added sweet sauces
Swedish Glacé Heavenly Chocolate Ice Cream (Asda)
Because we liked the Swedish Glace vanilla ice cream, we tried the chocolate flavour expecting to like it. Sadly, it was horrible! To me, it tasted like the smell of wooden boarding, and Steve said similar. We palmed it off on my parents because neither of us wanted any more of it. We were astonished to hear that my parents thought it was OK!
Morrison’s Free From Chocolate Italian Iced Dessert
This vegan Friendly ice cream was enjoyed by both Steve and I, but I would have liked it to have a stronger chocolate flavour.
Almond Dream Salted Caramel Ice Cream (Sainsbury’s)
I really liked this. It has a fairly strong salted caramel taste, but I would have liked it to have an even stronger taste. The taste is very nice. I could taste a slightly nutty taste, but not really an almond flavour, despite it being made with almond milk. My other half Steve said he could taste both the sweet and salty flavours in the ice cream, and said they were a nice combination.
Ben & Jerry’s Dairy Free Fudge Brownie Ice Cream (Morrisons)
Steve, Helen and I all really enjoyed this vegan friendly ice cream. It has a nice strong chocolate flavour, but I would like it a little sweeter. The bits of fudge brownie distributed through it are lovely, I just wish there were more of them. Helen says it tastes just like the dairy version.
The main drawback is the price. We wait until it is on offer before we buy it. We have JUST enough self-control!
Ben & Jerry’s Dairy Free Chunky Monkey Ice Cream (Morrisons)
Helen and I tried this. It is banana flavoured ice cream with little fudge chunks and walnut bits. Both Helen and I really enjoyed it, BUT we both thought it would be better without the walnuts, or them being substituted with hazelnut or peanuts bits would have been nicer. It’s such a shame, because the rest of this vegan friendly ice cream is so very tasty. It would have been a favourite if the nuts had been nuts I liked. The main drawback is the price.
Ben & Jerry’s Dairy Free Peanut & Butter Cookies Ice Cream (Morrison’s)
Steve and I found this vegan friendly ice cream delicious. It tasted of sweet peanut butter and chocolate cookies.
The only drawback is the price, but we would get it when it is on offer.
Ben & Jerry’s Cookies On Cookie Dough
This is caramel flavoured ice cream with chocolate chunks and bits of cookie dough. The ice cream is nice, but the best bit is when you get a little blob of cookie in with it, as it is super sweet. There are lots of chocolate chunks, which taste like dark chocolate, as they have a bitter aftertaste.
Brewers Delights Dairy Free Chocolate and hazelnut ice cream (Tesco)
This has a nice chocolate taste and has little pieces of hazelnut in it. I think it would be even nicer if stronger and sweeter.
VEGAN ICE CREAM CORNETS
Tesco Free From Toffee And Vanilla Cones
These vegan friendly ice cream cones are gorgeous! Steve and I both love them and are so glad our local Tesco does these! *Update: our local Tesco stopped stocking these. Very Annoying!
Tesco Free From Strawberry And Vanilla Cones
Steve and I both like these, but Steve more than me, because I found the strawberry flavour too subtle. I felt they would be nicer with a stronger, sweeter strawberry flavour.
4U Free From Strawberry And Vanilla Cones (Morrisons)
We both think much the same about these vegan friendly ice cream cones, as the Tesco equivalent, above.
4U Free From Chocolate And Vanilla Cones (Morrison’s)
We both thought these were nice, but we were left wishing they had a stronger chocolate flavour though.
Swedish Glacé Caramel Ice Cream Cornets (Co-op)
These are a wafer cone filled with caramel ice cream, covered in chocolate, and with a caramel sauce in the middle of the ice cream. Steve and I thought these were very tasty, although I would recommend a cheaper alternative being the Tesco Toffee & Vanilla Cones.
Free From Chocolate And Vanilla Cones (Morrison’s)
The ice cream in these is very soft. It tastes OK, but I would like it to be sweeter and have stronger flavours. Steve says he quite likes them.
VEGAN ICE CREAM LOLLIES
Swedish Glacé Dairy Free Smooth Vanilla Choc Ices
Steve is a fan of these but I was not keen on the taste of the chocolate coating. It was not sweet enough for me.
4U Free From Vanilla And Chocolate Flavour Ice Cream Lions (Morrisons)
These are ice ream lollies, but don’t have a chocolate shell like choc-ices do. They are quite nice, but I would prefer them to be sweeter.
Magnum Vegan Classic (Tesco)
I seem to be quite fussy when it comes to chocolate, and I could really taste the chocolate in this and I was not keen on it, so I gave the rest of mine to my other half Steve, He thoroughly enjoyed it, but I thought the chocolate needed to be a lot sweeter and creamier. My friend Chris says he loves these and they are his favourite. My friend Helen likes them too.
Magnum Vegan Almond (Tesco)
I thought this might be a bit nicer because it has almonds in the chocolate shell. I thought that might make the chocolate taste a bit better to me. It maybe did slightly, but not enough. I still didn’t like it. Steve thoroughly enjoyed his though, and my friend Chris is a big fan. My friend Helen also likes them.
Please let us know what you think of these, or any other vegan food products you have tried, and where you got them. The more opinions people have to go off, the better!
Please also tell us if you think we have made a mistake, or that a food product is now no longer vegan.
